The purpose of the ThunderFace device is to convert DisplayPort to SDI, and it does so with zero latency. The zero latency of ThunderFace is crucial in achieving the lowest possible latency for the entire system when processing live signal. However the overall setup has certain latency caused by the input card for SDI capture, QTAKE image processing, GPU output, and output card (ThunderFace). Each of these steps – except for ThunderFace – adds one frame of latency when processing live signal, resulting in a total of 3 frames. But here’s a tip: try setting ThunderFace to double frequency. The result will still be 25 frames per second, but the latency will be 2 frames because each of the four steps (except the first one) will be processed twice as fast.
